Rogue grew up in the swamps of the Mississippi in a place called Caldecott County. Her powers awakened when she kissed a boy named Cody. His memories entered her mind and confused her greatly. She found shelter with a mutant called Mystique who later turned out to be Rogue's adopted mother. She went under the care of Irene Adler (Destiny) and joined the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants.

While with the Brotherhood, she participated in their acts of terrorism and fought against the X-Men. Once Mystique ordered Rogue to absorb Ms. Marvel's powers in order to help free some of the captured Brotherhood members in prison. For some reason not yet known, she absorbed Carol Danvers' powers permanently. The absorption also caused Rogue to take on Carol's personality, and went in a constant struggle to control this split personality.

Still unable to control her gifts or the split personality, Rogue finally sought refuge with the X-Men. Since joining the X-Men she is still a loyal member to this day.

After some hard times in a place called the Savage Lands, Rogue finally beat her Carol Danvers persona. When she returned to the X-Men, she found a new member, Remy Lebeau a.k.a Gambit. The two began to flirt, and eventually began dating.

After absorbing the attributes of a telepathic alien named Z'Cann, she further mutated Rogue's powers. Now all of the people's memories, personalities, and powers Rogue has ever absorbed is coming out deep within Rogue's subconscious. While still dealing with her mutated gifts, Rogue and the other members of the X-Men went out to search for Destiny's diaries which map out human history.
