Two years ago, Dani Moonstar was lost in a canyon, during a cave-in, and was never found, and so she was presumed dead. In reality, she entered a hibernation with her newly discovered mutant powers. She tried reaching out telepathically to find aid, but she frightened off the people, and they believed the area to be haunted.
When Kitty Pryde came however, they formed a deep connection. Danielle projected herself into Kitty's senses as a physical being. When the telepathic link was broken, Kitty began searching for her, found her, and rescued her just in time deep within the Dark Hollow caverns. It is not entirely clear if she ever joined the X-Men or stayed in her hometown.
Danielle can create incredibly realistic mental images of people's worst fears. The victim may see it as real, but realistically it is not. Danielle's telepathic powers mainly focus on projecting mental images, but she has a few minor telepathic powers as well.
