Mystique keeps things hidden, and so it is very difficult to know where Mystique comes from and when she was born. In addition her powers prevent us from knowing what her real form looks likes and who she is. She always has a hidden agenda, and usually does not work alone. She finds most powerful mutants she can muster up and uses them for her tasks. We do know that she has a son, Kurt Wagner a.k.a. Nightcrawler, and adopted Rogue when she was four years old, and put her under the care of Irene Adler (Destiny) to watch over her.

Mystique has the superhuman ability to alter her shape and form to mimic any living thing. Her powers are so advanced she can sound like them, disguise her own sent (from Wolverine), and keep people from reading her mind. Mystique does have special limitations though. She cannot morph into nonliving things, and if she mimics a mutant, she cannot mimic their powers. Mystique's powers give her the advantage of supressing her real age and possibly a slight healing factor in order to prevent signs of aging.

Considering Mystique's personality and outlook on life and mutants, her past was difficult. Although Mystique may seem ruthless, cruel, and only wanting what she wants, it seems family is still one important thing in her life. She cares for her son Kurt, and adopted daughter, Rogue. She may not openly show that love towards them, but she gives small hints that she does.

Mystique has shapeshifted into many people. In the 1st season she disguised herself as Raven Darkholme, principal of Bayville High School to watch over her Brotherhood mutants and spy on the X-Men. In the 2nd season after her cover as the school's principal was known to the X-Men, she pretended to be a new student named Risty Wilde in attempt to get closer to Rogue, and access Cerebro's files. That soon failed after Rogue accidentally touched her skin at a concert.
